How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)

Director: Dean Deblois
Length: 102 minutes
Genre: animation, adventure, action
Voices: Jay Baruchel (Hiccup), Cate Blanchett (Valka), Gerard Butler (Stoick), America Ferrera (Astrid) and many more!
Imdb rating: 8.3

In How To Train Your Dragon 2 the story of Hiccup, Toothless and all of their friends continues. The story takes places 5 years after the first one. Hiccup and Toothless have become an inseperable pair and together they explore new parts of the world and try to live the adventure. Until one day they discover a gigantic ice cave full of dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider. They find themselves only moments away from a battle that will change everything. And it may be the perfect opportunity for Hiccup to find who he really is.

You may not know this, but How to train your dragon is one of my all-time-favourite animated movies! The soundtrack is epic and the story is so interesting. I feel like it took ‘kids movies’ to a new level. And the sequel did so much more than that. Right from the start you get sucked into their world again and you experience an action-packed opening’s scene. Of course it becomes clear that the people of Berk are happily living together with dragons. Because why wouldn’t they be? A dragon seems to make a brilliant pet and keeps you entertained. The fighting has some unpredictable endings and aaah, I love this movie!

Oh yes I cried. It’s because of the soundtrack! Whenever the music is right, the movie is great for me! Especially if I get goosebumps all over.

I give this movie

no, that’s no exaggeration.

things about books |1

Yesterday I found out about the most amazing website EVER. I’m dead serious. It is and basically it’s a big database full of ebooks. No, not only classics, but also the most popular books of the moment. Definitely worth checking out! It’s heaven on earth. Unless you don’t own an ereader, then I would suggest you get one.

Also, one of the most cute books I have ever read is Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. For those who have read the book, you know how it is filled with notes and pictures and receipts and playlists? Well, I was listening to a Spotify-playlist just now and it reminded me of the book and it made me look up a playlist of the songs mentioned in the book my Morgan Matson (this sentence is way too long, I’m sorry). I couldn’t find anything useful on Spotify, but as always Google was my best friend! It seems that Morgan Matson gets the question for a playlist very often and she has a link on her website that takes you to the website, where all of the playlists are waiting for you!

The book I’m currently reading is Stranger on a train by Jenny Diski. I like it so far. It’s about an English woman who takes takes a trip to America by boat and then decides to visit a friend. The friend offers to pick her up at the airport, but she declines and tells him she is taking the train instead. Now, I have never been to the United States, neither have I taken the train there, so I wouldn’t think that it is the same as here. Obviously, now that I’m reading the book I know it isn’t the same. Anyway, the book is about the people she meets on the train, the stories they tell and the adventures that they all experience.

Yep, I’m still listening to the playlists.

His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman

This trilogy consists of the following books: the Golden Compass (or the Northern Lights), the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass.

When the Golden Compass movie adaptation first came out in 2007, I immediately went to see it in the cinema. I remember everyone cheering and clapping when Lorek Byrnison (the bear) won the big fight, it was fun! That the movie was based on a book, I found out later. But it wasn’t until 2 weeks ago that I finally decided it was time to read it.

In the Golden Compass/the Northern Lights you are introduced to a new fantasy world and the main character Lyra. In that world every human has a daemon, which is some sort of companion animal that is part of you. Between that particular daemon and its human there is a link. When one of them goes to far (in distance), they experience severe suffering, like their heart is being ripped out. Well, in Lyra’s world something is going awry. Children are missing and soon everyone is scared of the Gobblers. What happens next is a whirlwind of adventures, interesting characters and great imagination of the author.

In the Subtle Knife, another main character is introduced. His name is Will and he is from another world, which resembles ours. In that world, people don’t have daemons. One day Will needs to flee his home and mysteriously finds himself somewhere far away from the Oxford that he knows. He and Lyra meet and again, so many adventures.

In the Amber Spyglass, the third book, a lot happens as well. Although I didn’t like it as much as the first two. The ending was lovely though, but some of the scenes maybe too dramatic? I can’t really tell you what happens in this book, since that would be too much of a spoiler. But what I can tell you, is that everything becomes clear and your questions will be answered.

Oh and SPOILER lots of people die.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this series! It is a world about which I haven’t read much before. Not like all of the dystopians books lately in which the main character rebels against the authority.

There are some scenes throughout the books that would have been amazing on screen, but the second and third book won’t get a book-to-movie-adaptation I’m afraid. Maybe it’s for the better? ‘Cuz we all know how good they can be *hm*.

I also did a test to see what kind of animal my daemon would be (I couldn’t find the official one)! I got the following ‘advice’:

Your daemon’s form would represent highly sensitive nature, your frank honesty, and your devotion to friends and family. He or she would stick close to you and whisper comfort and advice in your ear most of the time. When you or your loved ones needed defending, however, he or she would become as openly vocal as you, and help you in your protestations.

Suggested forms: Songbird, Dove, Swan, Domestic cat, Border Collie.

What would your daemon be? Have you read the books or have you seen the movie? What did you think?

Stacking the shelves |1

This is the first time I’m using this title. A couple of other blogs use it to announce new books, hauls, library books, just everything that includes new books and a bookshelf, be it in reality or in the virtual world. And now, me!

Last week I ordered 3 books to treat myself for a month of work. I have been trying to save money for my internship, but 3 books were worth it. The library has been my friend as well for the last couple of weeks. Usually I don’t go very often, because I buy my own books, but like I mentioned, SAVING (uhh).

So only an hour ago, the door bell rang and the postman was there with my package, yay! I ordered from again, because their service is excellent and you don’t have to pay a shipping fee when your order is over 20 euro’s.

The books that I got:

Lola and the Boy Next Door – Stephanie Perkins

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion… she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit – the more sparkly, more wild – the better. And life is pretty close to perfect for Lola, especially with her hot rocker boyfriend. That is, until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighbourhood and unearth a past of hurt that Lola thought was long buried. So when talented inventor Cricket steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally face up to a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Four – Veronica Roth

One choice breaks free of his past. One choice embraces his future. One choice exposes the dangers. One choice changes him – forever. One choice will free him.

the Revenge of Seven – Pittacus Lore

They have killed four of us. They will not rest until we are all dead. They will not stop until your planet is theirs. They think we are broken. We will not be defeated. We are all that stands in their way. We know secrets they thought hidden. We have power they never expected. The time has come for them to fall.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? I’m really excited to read them!

PROM (2011)

Lenght: 104 minutes
Genre: Comedy/Drama
Director: Joe NussbaumWho’s in it: Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, DeVaughn Nixon, Danielle Campbell…

PROM is a Disney Channel original movie. It is about a girl, Nova, and her team who are in their senior year of high school and want to create the best prom ever. They spent a lot of time on making the props, but when those are destroyed in a fire, Nova is desperate. And with only 3 more weeks until the big day, things are not looking good. But then the principal forces a boy, named Jesse Richter, to help Nova. Of course, drama is involved and romance and friendship and all that jazz.

I always adore Disney movies, whether they are animated or real and even if imdb-users gave this movie a 5.3 I still think it deserves more. It’s definitely that kind of movie that you’ll enjoy when you are having a bad day or when you just want to be entertained and don’t want to think about anything. Yes, it’s a girls movie. Note: it’s not the best Disney movie.

Would You Rather – Book Edition (TAG)

Would you rather…
1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?
I think I would rather read only trilogies, that is if it’s a good story. You know the feeling when you love a story but there isn’t any sequel coming (soon)? With trilogies you’ll always have that extra story to get to.
2. Read only female or male authors?
Uh. This is a hard one. I feel like I’d only read female authors? But I don’t really know to be honest.
3. Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?
I shop at neither of them. Barnes & Noble doesn’t exist where I live and Amazon shipping is too much. I usually buy my books online at (it’s a Dutch website).
4. All books become movies or t.v. shows?
TV shows! If books are really good and lenghty, like the Song of Ice and Fire trilogy e.g. then they are not allowed to make a movie of them! It’s not right. Plus, when you have different episodes, different point of views can be showed and all of the characters can be included instead of letting them disappear.
5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
If I could read 5 books per week, I would feel so cool. But honestly, who has time to read 5 books a week? School exists, the internet exists. So I guess I should go with 5 pages per day.
6. Be a professional reviewer or author?
I’m not a very professional reviewer, but I wish I could be one. The problem is that I understand most of the English vocabulary (with or without any context), but that doesn’t mean that I can use all of those words when explaining something. And being an author is not really something I ever dreamed of. I’m not the kind of girl that has been writing stories since she was very little. No. (That doesn’t mean that I won’t like writing a book, I’m just not the person to do it)
7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven’t read before?
This is a hard one. I love exploring new worlds and reading new stories and getting to know new characters, but if choosing that means that I won’t be able to reread the stories that I know = forgetting about them, then no. I would rather only read my top 20 favourite books.
8. Be a librarian or book seller?
Hmm. A librarian. I love the library and the atmosphere.
9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?
My favourite genre. I think. Man, these questions are painful! I don’t want to think about a world in which I can only read anything but. The question is of course, what is my favourite genre? I think it must be a mix of fantasy, dystopian and chicklits? Is that allowed, haha?

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?
Don’t get me wrong, I love physical books and buying them and admiring my bookshelves, but I also have an ereader. And I have to admit, an ereader is pretty dang useful. I bought mine a couple of months ago, when I almost had to leave for my first week of my internship. I didn’t think it would be easy to carry physical books with me, so that’s basically why I bought one. Plus, when I’ll be in Oslo next year, I certainly won’t be able to take books with me. (I mean, what about my clothes and shoes and stuff?) It’s also very small and it has a memory of 1000 or more ebooks, if I’m not mistaken. Handy, huh? I would rather read ebooks.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret – Brian Selznick

Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station, Hugo’s undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo’s dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery.  (Amazon)

This book is such a quick, nice read. It is filled with lots of drawings and pictures to go along with the text (which isn’t much) and it turns the story in some kind of movie. You can finish this book in less than half a day. The main character, Hugo, is a really loveable character. You can easily relate to him and his struggles of staying alive as a 12-year old in a station full of strangers and adults.

I read the Dutch version of the book, so I’m not the one to judge Selznick’s writing style, but the story was really well written in my opinion. Together with the pictures you could see it all before you, the strain station with all of the clocks, the other characters, the movies that are mentioned…

If you’re ever looking for a quick read, that you’ll love and that won’t take much of your time, then give this book a go. It might be nice for a readathon too!

August is over

Today is the last day of August, which means that tomorrow is the first day of September. September first is back-to-school-day in Belgium, for all the kids that are not in college/uni. I’m in college, I’m not yet going to school. Not until September 22nd.

Like I wrote yesterday, I had a great summer and with 3 more weeks of the holiday to enjoy, I can gladly say August is over. September, welcome back! I mean it when I say that I’m excited for school to start again. Sometimes a break can take too long.

I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do in these 3 long weeks, except for some days that I have planned out already. It might be safe to relax a bit more and read tons of books, like I’ve been doing since the end of June. I’ve read 15 books so far. Proud, yeah? Watching youtube video’s will have a part in this too. And watching some shows, like ANTM (yay). Currently I’m enjoying the college video’s again of my favourite youtubers. Looking forward to the dorm tours already (where you at?). It’s always fun to compare the Belgian school system with the American one. One of the things I feel like we miss here are definitely the dorms. We actually do have places that a student can rent during the school year, but it has a different tone to it. It’s not a big building attached to the school with a dining hall and tons of rooms. They are mostly run by independent owners. In Belgium we call such a room a ‘kot’. I’m not renting one, since it’s easy enough to get to school by bus and train everyday. I don’t feel like I need one, it only is an extra cost for my parents. And even though I’m quite happy with how relatively cheap studying in Belgium is, I’d still love to experience the American college-/uni-life! For now the only way of doing that is by watching other people’s video’s on youtube haha.

Oh and some books are awesome too! Like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell! That is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. It’s about this girl Cath and her twin sister Wren who are going to college for the first time. Cath is an introverted, shy girl and she is sharing a room with a girl she doesn’t even now and who doesn’t seem to be very nice. The story basically follows her during her first year in college. The first weeks are very hard and Cath almost never leaves her room. Not even to go to the dining hall, not kidding. It’s a REALLY awesome book, go give it a go please! Oh and she writes fanfiction. Yeah.

I think I’ve been rambling enough for now. Sometimes it feels good to let it all go (let it go!)  and just keep on writing and getting stuff off my mind.

Have a great week!

Life currently /.

So hi there! I have made some changes on this blog. First of all, from now on I will be solely blogging in English. I hid the header and added a background -some flowers!

My old blogposts are still available, since I did put time in writing them. No, I have never been a very loyal blogger, but at the moment I kind of miss writing and ranting about life and stuff that happens. There still is twitter though! yay *happy dance*

Today is the last day of my summer job. I have to admit that I’m sad. Again, I met some amazing people and now we have to part ways again and go to school. Well, school starts the 22nd. That’s 3 more weeks of summer break to enjoy. I have planned some days with my friends, I have a couple of parties to go to and 2 days of volunteering to look forward to.

Did I go on a holiday? Yes, I certainly did. At the end of June I went on a small city trip with two of my friends. We went to Hasselt, a small, but very cute city in my home country Belgium. We enjoyed ourselves a lot and tried at least 10 different restaurants and coffee shops. Life was good. The second week of July I spent in Budapest with 4 of my best friends. That was even better! Budapest really is a beautiful city. We rent an apartment through housetrip which turned out to be amazing! And!! Was situated right in the middle of the city centre. What?! I know. I know. The last 2 weeks of July I spent at the seaside in Belgium together with my sister and my parents. Other travel adventures I had this year were 3 days in Berlin and 2 weeks in Lithuania.

The next big adventure is my 5-month-long work placement in Oslo, Norway! I’m so looking forward to that. I expect to be leaving around the 20th of January. It’s coming closer now.

I hope to improve my blogging skills this year, so that I can continue sharing stories and ideas with every visiting reader that is interested ^.^

Oh and even though I deleted the page about the 2014 reading challenge, I’m still participating. You can check my progress on the goodreads website! :) Is anyone else participating? Let me know! Happy reading!
